Uses of Carbide

6. Tamping Tools
Tamping tools is used to correct rail alignment to make them parallel and flat, so that to achieve a more comfortable ride for passengers, and to reduce the mechanical strain for rails. This is done by finding places where the sleepers have sunk from the point for bearing weight of the passing trains. The tamping tools lift each sleeper and rails up, and packs ballast underneath. When the sleeper is laid down again, the sagged rails will be at its proper position. In cases where frost causes the adjacent rails to rise higher, people can use ballast tampers to raise rails above their original level to make the line parallel again.
